Our demonstrator for today is Michael Mocho from Albuquerque.

Two-minute egg cut with his favorite tool, the skew

Michael started off showing examples of texturing

Boxes. The spirals are added as inserts.

A threaed box. The three sides were formed by sanding.

Ball and socket joints. He did not demonstrate today how the joints are done.

Different angles of presentation give different effects

The skew or angled scraper can also cut coves as well as beads

Since is hard to push straight, take short strokes when honing skew.

Sizing the handle dowel with metal drill gauge pushed on by tailstock quill

Michael presented history of lathe and a wide selection of his turning work

Arnie J. get lesson on handling the skew. Toolrest height and body stance are important.

Fish hook diamond sharpener useful on gouges

The Sorby large spiraling texture tool. Cuts on the top corner

Example of knurling tool which compresses the woood

First get tool spinning, then angle down to catch the top edge to cut the spiral

Different effects with this tool combined

Sandpaper wrapped around a slotted dowel will polish the straight insides.

Chasing a male thread. He uses dish detergent to lubricate the Maple wood surface.

Some chasers come with a half tooth which must be ground off.
