Plan is to make ledge for expanding jaw chuck in lid to hold lid while turning top surface

Now cut mortice for chuck

Top drilled to accept lid knob

Flat board blank for painted lid. Block is glued to board and then turned for form tenon

Block is hot glued to lid and tape for temporary handle.

Lid is primered, then painted with base coat of white or black (usually)

Colored paints added to cup in reverse order …

… then flip over and dump
