Meeting Information: Saturday, August 28th from 9:00 am to Noon

Hands-on Workshop with emphasis on teaching tool use: we will have 4 lathes set up and a specific teaching program is planned for new turners.

at   Russ Babbitt’s

Note that this meeting is not at Levi Mize’s Shop: we will return there next month.

We have been busy at the Ventura County FAIR demonstrating woodturning in the Home Arts Building.  The  Fair started August 4th and continues to August 15th.  If you haven’t visited, there is still time to see the vast array of turned objects on display and to see us make something before your very eyes (often small objects like tops which we give away to the kids).  Anyway that is why the newsletter is shorter than usual and posted late.  Photos from the fair and the winning pieces will be in the September newsletter.  Anyone who has seen us at the fair and wants more information can call one of the officers.

At the July 24th meeting Jim Rinde presented an excellent demonstration on turning Un-Natural Edge Bowls.  Two photos are below and eventually his entire presentation with step by step instructions will appear on the Projects page.  During July we also had a fine display at the Camarillo library thanks to Ron Lindsay and one photo is also below.  When your editor has more time I will add to this also.

The monthly challenge for the August meeting is to make a vase or weed pot.  Some of us have been making these at the fair and giving them away. You might keep one for our Show-N-Tell session.

As a reminder: the September meeting is on Sunday the 19th and features an all day demo by the internationally known turner Stewart Batty.  More information will be available in the September newsletter.
